We've all heard of them, The Society to Prevent Cruelty to Animals, or the American Humane Society.  How many of us really know what they do for the Animals in our lives, for those creatures that, unlike ourselves, cannot defend, medicate or assist themselves when in pain.  Recently, television networks like Animal Planet have added shows that demonstrate the heroism that volunteers and employees of these groups show almost every day.  Shows like Animal Precinct which not only documents the efforts of those that remove Animals from dangerous situations, but the struggles, heartbreaks and joyous recoveries of animals that had been previously removed, are some of the biggest means that the SPCA has for gathering awareness.

However, The SPCA, the Humane Society, both are Nonprofit groups that do well on the national and international level, yet often struggle to continue operations on the local level, scraping by each year on meager donations.

According to the SPCA International's main website, Their mission is this: "to raise awareness of the abuse of animals to a global level, to teach and foster good pet parenting policies, and to promote spay and neuter programs around the world with the goal of eradicating the need to euthanize healthy and adoptable companion animals of all ages."  Something they accomplish through their many programs.

Aside from providing Shelter and Collection services to the local communities they serve, often times, SPCA-run shelters either do their own veterinary work on site, or contract out to a Local veterinary office, at their own expense usually.  Between these expenses, care for the animals in the shelter's care and the other continuous running costs of such an operation.

This is where the snags come up for such organizations.  By operating on Donations and donations alone, they can often find it hard to continue working.

So Remember, Support your local SPCA Shelters and all the work they do for your community!

Soul Searching by JustAnotherLover It's unknown whether this Feline has been adopted yet, but with such pretty eyes, I'm sure it has.
